Burnett Dairy Wins at the 2025 Wisconsin State Fair with Black Truffle Cheddar Gruyere Spreadable Cheese

GRANTSBURG, WI – Burnett Dairy Cooperative proudly celebrates another milestone in cheesemaking excellence. Its Wood River Creamery Black Truffle Cheddar Gruyere Spreadable Cheese has earned 3rd place in the Cold Pack Cheese category at the prestigious 2025 Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Products Contest.

As one of the nation’s premier dairy competitions, the contest draws hundreds of top cheesemakers and dairy producers across Wisconsin. Over 500 entries across 50 categories, including sour cream, yogurt, butter, and cheese, were submitted for the June 19 event at Wisconsin State Fair Park.

Placing in the top three in such a competitive field underscores Burnett Dairy Cooperative’s commitment to crafting innovative, high-quality cheeses.

The award-winning spread was developed by Dr. Swati Verma, Cheese Innovation Scientist, in cooperation with Master Cheesemaker Rob Stellrecht, a 38-year veteran of Burnett Dairy Cooperative. Dr. Verma is an experienced Dairy Scientist with her Doctorate and Master’s in Animal Nutrition, and Stellrecht holds the esteemed Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker certification in both Cheddar and Mozzarella. Together, their expertise in high-quality milk and unique flavors and textures of cheese continues to drive the evolution of Burnett’s high-quality offerings.

The Black Truffle Cheddar Gruyere is part of the growing Wood River Creamery spreadable collection, which continues to gain recognition at major dairy competitions. This latest honor follows a previous win at the United States Championship Cheese Contest, where the Triple Pepper Spread also placed in the top three of its category.

Blending the sharpness of aged Cheddar, the nuttiness of Gruyere, and the rich, earthy notes of black truffle, this luxurious spread delivers unforgettable flavor and texture. Whether showcased on a charcuterie board, melted into a gourmet grilled cheese, or enjoyed simply on a favorite cracker, this cheese stands out for food lovers and cheese enthusiasts alike.
